Resuscitation Trainer

Aim

To provide participants with the skill and ability to deliver and assess the Royal Life Saving Resuscitation course.

Description

The Royal Life Saving Resuscitation course covers the standard components of the Basic Life Support (BLS) algorithm, focussing primarily on the effective demonstration of CPR.

The Resuscitation Trainer course is designed for participants who would like the ability to deliver and assess Resuscitation within their workplace or community setting.

The Resuscitation Trainer course covers aspects such as:

• Training & Assessment techniques
• Resuscitation course content
• Designing effective assessments (scenarios)
• Practical in-class delivery

While this course is designed predominantly for people working in a health care setting (see pre-requisite below), please contact the Training Department on (08) 9383 8200 should you wish to discuss your individual circumstances.

Course Information

• Pre-requisite: Current Resuscitation / CPR qualification (gained within the last 12 months), and currently working in a health care setting (e.g. hospital, community clinic, school health centre etc)
• Minimum Age Requirements: 18
• Course Duration: 8 hours
• Certification: On successful completion of all components of the Resuscitation Trainer course, participants will receive a Royal Life Saving Resuscitation Trainer certificate.


• Course Fee: $100.00 (GST Free)
• Fee Includes: Resuscitation Trainer notes, professional instruction and accreditation.

Maintaining Resuscitation Trainer Status

To maintain the Resuscitation Trainer qualification, trainers are required to demonstrate currency of knowledge and application of skills through the completion of a 'Requalification Kit'. Examples of evidence that could be used to maintain currency include:

• Gaining / maintaining qualifications
• Delivering at least 3 Resuscitation courses per year
• Attending professional development sessions

The requalification procedure is paper based (submission of evidence), not requiring attendance at another trainer course.

 

Desirable (not essential) Experience

While the only essential prerequisite for this course is a current Resuscitation / CPR certificate, Royal Life Saving recommends potential trainers would benefit from having one or more of the following:

• Previous experience teaching first aid / resuscitation / emergency care or similar
• Higher level qualifications (e.g. Senior First Aid, Advanced First Aid, Nursing etc)
• First aid or clinical experience (e.g. event first aid, nursing, paramedic etc)

These skills will help you to convey and relate the course content in a more thorough and interactive manner.
