School Based Traineeship

Aim

School-based Traineeships provide an opportunity for full time secondary students enrolled in school to begin preparing themselves for a career. They allow students studying towards the WA Certificate of Education to also train in an industry area and gain a nationally recognised vocational education and training qualification. School-based Traineeships can be conducted in the Perth metropolitan area and many other locations in Western.

Description

School-based Traineeships are a great way to develop skills and get paid at the same time. School-based Traineeships can open up a new career and employment opportunities and enhance your enterprise skills. School-based Traineeships are only available in the following qualifications by Royal Life Saving:

• Certificate II in Community Recreation
• Certificate II in Sport and Recreation

School-based Traineeships can be conducted in the Perth and many other locations in Western Australia.

Course Information

• Minimum Age Requirements: Young people completing Year 11 and 12 of their education.
• Course Duration: 18 months
• Certification: All successful students will receive a nationally recognised qualification.

Benefits of School-based Traineeships

There are many benefits for students and employers. You might even know of someone who wants to take on a school-based trainee, like a relative or friend of the family, but they may not be aware of the benefits.

For the employer:

• Taking on a school-based trainee is a low cost effective way to meet specific needs of the business and contribute to ensuring industry skill requirements are being addressed.
• Financial assistance is available to help meet the cost of taking on a school based trainee.
• Students are keen and interested to participate as they undertake a recruitment and selection process that requires them to demonstrate their committment and motivation to take up a school based traineeship.
• Create goodwill for your business. The values and attitudes students learn in a school-based traineeship are likely to stay with them for their working life.

For the student:

• Undertake an education and paid employment.
• Graduate and achieve the West Australian Certificate of Secondary Education.
• Achieve a nationally recognised industry qualification.
• Practice hands-on learning in the workplace which makes the transition from school to work much easier.
• A traineeship can open up different ways of getting into university or other training, students should wish to continue studies once leaving high school, eithor full-time or part-time.
• Make an early start on a career.
