Pool Lifeguard

Aim

To develop the skills, knowledge and judgement required to become a qualified Pool Lifeguard. This training course has been designed to meet the requirements for employment as a Pool Lifeguard in Western Australia.

Description

Earn top $$$ and have FUN

The current industry requirement for employment as a Pool Lifeguard in a public swimming pool is a Pool Lifeguard Award and a Senior First Aid certificate.

The Pool Lifeguard Award conducted by Royal Life Saving is recognised throughout Australia and in many countries around the world. This is an entry-level qualification that can lead to an exciting career in the aquatic recreation industry. The Pool Lifeguard course can be conducted in the Perth metropolitan area and many other locations in Western Australia.

Qualified Pool Lifeguards are required for full-time, part-time and vacation jobs. Please visit the Employment section of this website for jobs that are currently available in Western Australia.

Course Information

• Pre-requisite: Current Senior First Aid certificate, and current RLSSA Bronze Medallion or equivalent.
• Minimum Age Requirements: 16 years (generally 18 years to be employed).
• Course Duration: 20 hours.
  
• Certification:
  On successfully completing both the Pool Lifeguard training course and the on-the-job component, candidates will receive the following awards:
  • Pool Lifeguard Award
  • Oxygen Resuscitation Award
  • Statement of Attainment that includes the following units of competence from the National Community Recreation Industry Training Package.
    • SRC AQU 003B Respond to an aquatic emergency using basic water rescue techniques
    • SRC AQU 006B Supervise clients in an aquatic facility or environment
    • SRC AQU 007B Respond to an aquatic emergency using advanced water rescue techniques

  Note: you will need to hold a current Senior First Aid certificate to complete the Pool Lifeguard award.



• Course Fee: $240.00 (GST Free)
• Fee Includes: Instruction, pool entry and all course materials.
  

On-the-Job Assessment

To complete the final assessment of the course you must be able to access an aquatic facility to complete the three workplace activities in the on-the-job assessment logbook. The logbook is then forwarded to Royal Life Saving where an industry assessor will assess the documents.

The following are Training Course Prerequisites that must be completed before you Enrol into this Training Course

• Bronze Medallion
• Senior First Aid

Please note that the current Western Australian industry requirements for employment as a Pool Lifeguard is the RLSSA Pool Lifeguard Award and a Senior First Aid qualification. Please note that if you also enrol in a Senior First Aid course you will receive 10% discount off the price of both courses.
