Safe Pool Operations Course

Aim

The Safe Pool Operations training program will provide the candidate with the skills and knowledge to operate the swimming pool plant and equipment associated with Group 2, 3 & 4 Aquatic Facilities. The program has been developed to meet the requirements listed in the Western Australian Department of Health Regulations (Swimming Pools) and Code of Practice for Aquatic Facilites and is an approved Aquatic Facility Training Program (for Group 2, 3 and 4 Aquatic Facilities Technical Operations).

Description

The training program has been designed and customised using four units of competence from the National Community Recreation Industry Training Package.

These units are reflective of the skills and knowledge required to operate a small swimming pool in line with current industry best practice.

The Safe Pool Operations training course is conducted in Perth and many other locations in Western Australia. This training course is approved by the Executive Director of Public Health (Western Australia) for the purposes of the Code of Practice for the Design, Construction, Operation, Management and Maintenance of Aquatic Facilities (see Section 6.1 Interpretation of the Code).

Course Information

• Course Duration: 2 Days
  
• Certification: On successfully completing the program the candidate will receive a Safe Pool Operators Certificate from the Royal Life Saving Society. A Statement of Attainment will also be issued that includes the following units of competence from the National Community Recreation Industry Training Package.
• SRC AQU 001B - Monitor pool water quality
• SRC AQU 002B - Operate aquatic facility plant and equipment
• SRC AQU 004B - Maintain pool water quality
• SRX OHS 001B - Follow defined occupational health and safety policy and procedures relating to work being undertaken in order to ensure own safety and that of others in the workplace

On-the-job Assessment:

One of the most important components of this course is the "on-the-job" assessment process. At the successful completion of the "off-the-job" training each applicant will be issued with an "on-the-job" assessment record book. This record book contains assessment activities that are required to be completed during the "on-the-job" component of the Safe Pool Operations Training Course. Once the assessment portfolio is complete, candidates will need to forward it to Royal Life Saving. This assessment is the candidate's opportunity to record evidence of their skills and knowledge and is used to demonstrate competency in the workplace. Candidates have 4 months to complete the "on-the-job" assessment and present their portfolio to RLSSWA .
