Pool Operations Training Course

Aim

This training program will provide the candidate with skills and knowledge to operate swimming pool plant and equipment associated with Group 1 Aquatic Facilities. The program has been developed to meet the requirements set by industry and complies with Western Australian Department of Health Regulations and Code of Practice.

Description

The training program has been designed and customised using thirteen units of competence from the National Community Recreation Industry Training Package. These units are reflective of the skills and knowledge required to operate a public swimming pool in line with current industry best practice.

This is the qualification required to operate a public swimming pool and is fully endorsed by the Western Australian Department of Health.

Course Information

• Minimum Age Requirements: 18 years of age
• Course Duration: Perth = 7 days (incl BA) / Regional = 5 days + BA
• Certification: Upon the successful completion of the Pool Operations Training Course and the on-the-job assessment the candidate will receive:
  • LIWA Aquatics Pool Operations Certificate. This certificate with the approval of the Western Australian Department of Health
  • A certificate in operating self contained breathing apparatus in an aquatic facility
  • A Statement of Attainment that includes the following units of competence from the National Community Recreation Industry Training Package
  • SRC AQU 001B Monitor Pool Water Quality
  • SRC AQU 002B Operate Aquatic Facility Plant and Equipment
  • SRC AQU 004B Maintain Pool Water Quality
  • SRC AQU 005B Implement Aquatic Facility Plant and Equipment Maintenance Program
  • SRX EMR 001A Respond to emergencies situations
  • SRX EMR 002A Co-ordinate emergency response
  • SRX OHS 001B Follow Defined Occupational Health and Safety Policy and Procedures relating to work being undertaken in order to ensure own safety and that of others in the workplace

On-the-job Assessment

One of the most important components of this course is the "on-the-job" assessment process. At the completion of the "off-the-job" training each applicant will be issued with an "on-the-job" assessment record book. This record book contains assessment activities that are required to be completed during the "on-the-job" component of the Pool Operations Course. It is a personal record of your skills and knowledge and is used to demonstrate your competency in the workplace. In order to complete the "on-the-job" experience it is critical the applicant gains the pre-requisite qualifications (Senior First Aid and Pool Lifeguard Award).
