Aquatic Rescue Training for School Teachers

Aim

To provide participants with skills and knowledge of aquatic safety, rescue and survival skill techniques for supervising students participating in activities both in and around various aquatic environments.

Description

The RLSSA,Surf Lifesaving and the Education Department designed a concept to provide and assist school staff with an appropriate qualification for supervising students participating in activites both in and around water.

The Aquatic Rescue Training program for school teachers conducted by Royal Life Saving inconjunction with Surf Lifesaving will provide you with the skills and knowledge to react appropriately in a number of different aquatic emergency situations.

Course Information

• Pre-requisite: Online component of the course must be completed.
• Minimum Age Requirements: 18
• Course Duration: 8 hours
• Certification: On successful completion candidates will receive: Aquatic Rescue for School Teachers and Resucitation Award from The Royal Lifesaving Society.


• Course Fee: $0.00 ($0.00 GST)
• Fee Includes: Fee: $90 to $120. School will be Invoiced Instruction, pool entry and learning resources
  Please note: This Course is suitable for Teachers supervising students in various aquatic environments.

Course Content

The following areas are assessed as part of the Aquatic Rescue for School Teachers:

Pool Component

Theory: Theory on aquatic environments, water safety, rescue techniques, resuscitation and basic injuries - completed online prior to the course commencement date.

Resuscitation: Demonstrate effective Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation

Swim: Swim 400 metres, continuously in 13 minutes. 200m freestyle, 200m survival strokes.

Survival and Rescue Skills: Demonstrate a range of survival techniques and appropriate rescues for a range of different aquatic environments.

Spinal Injuries: Basic management of a suspected spinal injury in shallow water.

Rescue Initiative: Combine all of the skills and knowledge on rescues and utilise it to rescue 2 drowning casualties.

Beach Component:

Complete a 100m run 100m swim 100m run in 5 minutes.
Beach Rescues: Swim 25m to retrieve a conscious and an unconscious casualty.
