UNIT DESCRIPTION Demonstrate a Heat first and Feet first Surface Dive collect an objects in deep water
UNIT ELEMENTS MUST SEES
Head First Surface Dive Positioned just short of the point directly above the objects.
Arms pulled wide to a position level with the shoulders and bend hips (breaststroke approach) or drive forcibly with the leading arm. (freestyle approach)
Arms pulled back toward the face and legs lifted clear of the water.
Protection of head and face by extending arms in front
In a single surface dive, collect 3 of 6 objects placed in a 2m area in water 1.5m deep.
Feet First Surface Dive Stop treading water. Legs drawn together, straight and toes pointed. Hand drawn above the head. Correct vertical body position. Hands sculling. Feet feeling for possible hazards.

Sculling & Underwater Skills
UNIT DESCRIPTION Underwater search in deep water Dressed in swimwear trousers and long-sleaved shirt, float using a hand sculling movement for 1 minute then trad water for 1 minute waving intermittently
UNIT ELEMENTS MUST SEES
Search pattern Coordination of search and rescue. Gain help while scanning the area. Call emergency services. Appropriate spacing between searchers. Search in parallel lines. Appropriate backing up. All area covered.

Initiative & Resuscitation
UNIT DESCRIPTION

Demonstrate initiative in effecting a rescue of a person who is not more than 15 metres from safety. Demonstrate the rescue and resuscitation of an unconscious and non-breathing person floating face down in deep water.

UNIT ELEMENTS MUST SEES
Initiative Rescue of a person who is not more than 15 metres from safety Ability to specify whether the person is injured, unconscious or a weak swimmer. Identify and assess 4 possible rescue aids, Specify distance the person is from safety. Effective rescue including reassurance and instruction of person. Candidate able to explain reasons for the actions taken.
Wade Rescue and Resuscitation Slide in. Wading - checking for dangers. Person safely turned over. Assessment for unconsciousness. Clearing and opening the airway. Checking for the signs indicating the presence or absence of breathing. Simulation of EAR while wading to safety. Positioning the casualty for EAR. Mouth-mouth resuscitation. Mouth to nose resuscitation. Appropriate action for a casualty who vomits and the lateral position.

UNIT ELEMENTS MUST SEES
Reverse Legs forward. Kicking away vigorously. Readopting defensive position.
Leg block Push person away using leg. Swim away or submerge if necessary
Escape from front grasp Chin tucked close to chest. Extend arms forcefully against chest, armpits or hips of the person in difficulty. Duck away vigorously underwater. Adopt defensive position.
HELP Position Knees drawn towards chin. Legs together. Both arms pressed against sides. Head out of the water.

Throw Rescue Reassurance and instruction of person in how to use aid. Unweighted rope thrown to rescue. Person returned to safety.
Wade Rescue (rigid aid) Slide in. Wading - checking for dangers. Aid offered to the person. Turning to side when reaching with aid. Person pulled to a safe position. Person assisted out of water using a stirrup lift.
Accompanied Rescue Entry to water maintaining visual contact. Wade and/or swim passing aid to person. Safe distance maintained from person in difficulty. Reassurance and instruction in use of aid. Person accompanied to safety. Person instructed on how to leave the water.
