UNIT DESCRIPTION Demonstrate a Surface Dive collect three objects in 1.5m deep water
UNIT ELEMENTS MUST SEES
Surface Dive Positioned just short of the point directly above the objects. Arms pulled wide to a position level with the shoulders and bend hips (breaststroke approach) or drive forcibly with the leading arm. (freestyle approach) Arms pulled back toward the face and legs lifted clear of the water. Protection of head and face by extending arms in front In a single surface dive, collect 3 of 6 objects placed in a 2m area in water 1.5m deep.

Sculling & Underwater Skills
UNIT DESCRIPTION Underwater search in shallow water Dressed in swimwear shorts and t-shirt, float and tread water for 1 minute waving intermittently

Initiative & Resuscitation
UNIT DESCRIPTION

Demonstrate initiative in effecting a rescue of a person who is not more than 10 metres from safety.
Demonstrate the wade rescue and resuscitation of an unconscious and non-breathing person in waist deep water 5-8m from safety. Demonstrate DRABC position casualty for EAR and perform mouth-tomouth and nose resuscitation. Appropriate action for a casualty who vomits and the lateral position.

UNIT ELEMENTS MUST SEES
Initiative Person rescued who is not more than 10 metres from safety Ability to specify whether the person is njured, unconscious or a weak swimmer. Identify and assess 4 possible rescue aids, Specify distance the person is from safety. Effective rescue including reassurance and instruction of person. Candidate able to explain reasons for the actions taken.
Wade Rescue and Resuscitation Slide in. Wading - checking for dangers. Person safety turned over. Assessment for unconsciousness. Clearing and opening the airway. Checking for the signs indicating the presence or absence of breathing. Simulate EAR while wading to safety. Positioning the casualty for EAR. Mouth-mouth resuscitation. Mouth to nose resuscitation. Appropriate action for a casualty who vomits and the lateral position.

UNIT ELEMENTS MUST SEES
Throw Rescue Reassurance and instruction of person in how to use aid. Weighted rope thrown to rescue. Return of person to safety.
Wade Rescue (rigid aid) Slide in. Wading - checking for dangers. Aid offered to the person. Turning to side when reaching with aid. Person pulled to a safe position. Person assisted out of water using a stirrup lift.
Accompanied Rescue Entry to water maintaining visual contact. Wade and/or swim with aid passed to person. Safe distance maintained from person in difficulty. Reassurance and instruction in use of aid. Person accompanied to safety. Person instructed on how to leave the water.
