UNIT DESCRIPTION Demonstrate a Surface Dive collect two objects in 1.2m deep water
UNIT ELEMENTS MUST SEES
Surface Dive Positioned just short of the point directly above the objects. Arms puled wide to a position level with the shoulders and hips bend (breaststroke approach) or drive forcibly with the leading arm. (freestyle approach) Arms pulled back toward the face and legs lifted clear of the water. Protection of head and face by extending arms in front. In a single surface dive, collect 2 of 6 objects placed in a 2m area in water 1.2m deep.

Initiative & Resuscitation
UNIT DESCRIPTION Demonstrate initiative in effecting a rescue of a person who is not more than 8 metres from safety. Demonstrate DRABC position casualty for EAR and perform mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.
UNIT ELEMENTS MUST SEES
Initiative Rescue a person who is not more than 8 metres from safety. Ability to specify whether the swimmer is weak or injured. Identify and assess 4 possible rescue aids, Specify distance the person is from safety. Effective rescue including reassurance and instruction of person in difficulty. Candidate able to explain reasons for the actions taken.
Resuscitation Checking for dangers. Assessment for unconsciousness. Clearing and opening the airway. Checking for the signs indicating the presence or absence of breathing. Positioning the casualty for EAR. Mouth-mouth resuscitation.

Rescue Skills
UNIT DESCRIPTION 70 Reach rescue a person 2m from safety. Throw rescue a weak swimmer 8m from safety.
Wade Rescue a person 10m from safety using a buoyant aid.
Wade Rescue a person 8m from safety using a rigid aid
UNIT ELEMENTS MUST SEES
Reach Rescue Rescue using a specified aid. Rescuer in secure position. Reassurance and instruction of person. Person secured at a point of safety.
Throw Rescue Reassurance and instruction of person in how to use aid. Unweighted rope thrown to rescue. Person returned to safety.
Wade Rescue (buoyant aid) 5m Wade. Aid thrown to person. Instruction on how to use the aid. Safely returned. Avoiding contact until safety is reached.
Wade Rescue (rigid aid) Wading and aid offered to the person. Turn side on to reach with aid. Person pulled to a safe position. Person instructed on how to leave the water.
