Junior Lifeguard Club

The Junior Lifeguard club offers participants an alternative to the standard swimming levels, while still promoting stroke development and lifesaving skills in a fun, team-based environmentA JLC Club Member Towing a Manikin

Some of the many activities practised during JLC sessions include:

  • Obstacle Swimming
  • Obstacle Relay
  • Saving Manikin with Fins
  • Rescue Tube with Fins
  • 4x25m Manikin Relay
  • Rope Rescue Relay
  • Individual Rope Throw
  • Rescue Relay

The Junior Lifeguard Club concentrates on developing participant's rescue skills whilst also developing swimming endurance and racing techniques. JLC Coaches are often Pool Lifeguards themselves, allowing participants to learn from the best.

While competition is not an essential component of the JLC, there are numerous JLC carnivals throughout the year at which participants can win great prizes for themself or their club, as well as gaining an opportunity to put their skills into practice with other JLC members.

Many JLC clubs also choose to teach and assess the Bronze Strand awards as part of the program. This allows participants to obtain rescue qualifications in a fun, club based environment.

Participation in the Junior Lifeguard Club program can lead to future employment as a Lifeguard or Swim Instructor, as many of the skills taught are common to those required in the aquatic workplace.
