Watkins Southside Swimming - Wesley College
Watkins Southside Swimming was initially established in Maida Vale by Jan and Lester Watkins in 1974. Now, with the program based at Wesley College in South Perth, and run by Lee and Nick Watkins, the Swim School caters for in excess of 400 participants. Classes are open to all members of the community, as well as Wesley College students.
Watkins Southside Swimming offers lessons during Term 4 and Term 1 each year, covering levels 1-8 of the Swim & Survive program. After level 8, children are able to progress into squads which offer increased endurance while still maintaining a skills focus.
Watkins Southside Swimming offers small classes and well trained staff. The majority of staff working with the Swim School have come through the program either as swimmers or squad members, completed their training and then graduated to become instructors. This helps create an environment where learning can be optimised while at the same time participants and staff have a great time in the pool!
Rather than the standard 1 lesson per week, participants at Watkins South Side Swimming are enrolled in 2 lessons per week. This ensures there is plenty of time to practice all the skills taught, leading to a better retention of knowledge and rapid improvement in swimming ability.
In addition to the term-time swimming lessons, Watkins Southside Swimming offers a comprehensive vacation program for Stages 1-17.
Rather than having a break over the long summer holidays, participants are able to enjoy the benefits of small class sizes and ideal learning conditions to help retain all the skills discovered during the term.
