About the Centre

Arena Joondalup is located within the City of Joondalup, 25km north of Perth and is set in 33 hectares of landscaped parklands. Arena Joondalup is the largest multi-purpose sport, recreation and entertainment facility in Western Australia.

Arena’s Aquatic Centre has something for everyone. The Leisure Pool is perfect for a splashing good time. It features three 25m lanes, is heated to 28.5 degrees, and has a beach entry which graduates to 1.2m maximum depth – ideal for everyone from babies to adults and people with special needs. It includes a Lazy River and a 42m water slide. For competitive swimmers, the 50m pool comprises 10 lanes and graduates from 1.2m to 2m in depth. It is heated to 26.5 degrees which is ideal for training all year round.

The Arena Learn to Swim opened for operation in Term Two of 2000. The Learn to Swim programme caters for six month old babies through to adults and offers private lessons and special needs classes. This programme has the advantage of being able to use both pools for their lessons and is able to offer classes in varying depths appropriate to each level.

The programme runs from Monday to Friday in the mornings and afternoons and on Saturday morning. The parent baby and school age stages follow the RLSSA Infant Aquatic and Swim and Survive programmes.

LESSON PROGRAMMES
Children will be placed into classes according to their swimming ability. We aim to group participants with similar abilities and in some cases we may need to move them into another group. Where possible, we aim to do this within the first couple of weeks of the term to minimise disruptions.

Parent Baby Classes (RLSSA – Infant Aquatics)
Arena’s Parent Baby programme is designed to introduce your baby to water and aquatic activities in a gentle and encouraging way. We believe that swimming should be a bonding time for you and your baby and enjoyment of the water is an essential part of their development. Parents are advised on what to expect and are encouraged to ask questions. Parent Baby classes are available for children aged from 6 months to 3 years.

Preschool (ARENA specific programme) and School Age (RLSSA Swim & Survive Levels 1-9) Classes
Classes are conducted without parent participation to allow children to establish their independence and enjoy interaction with other children. These classes are structured on a series of levels that focus on stroke techniques and developing strength and water confidence in a fun, learning environment. Every child is unique and will progress at different rates, therefore children should not be expected to pass a level every term.

Junior Lifeguard Club
The Junior Lifeguard Programme introduces pupils to lifesaving activities, teamwork, community education, leadership and competition in a fun and rewarding way. This programme includes Level 10 – 12 of the Swim and Survive programme. While there’s a serious purpose to learning skills that may some day save lives, the Junior Lifeguard Club has a fun approach which ensures children remember more, practice more and learning is more effective.

Private Lessons
If you think you’re child requires more individual attention, you can enroll them in private lessons. Special needs classes are also available at discounted prices.

Holiday Swim
Keep the kids active during the holidays – Arena’s Learn to Swim offers fun swimming classes during the school holidays. These Intensive 5 Day programmes are conducted by qualified and experienced instructors and are a great way to introduce new swimmers to structured swimming lessons or simply maintain and develop the skills learnt during Term Swimming.

Arena Swim Club
Children who are interested in competitive swimming have the opportunity to progress into one of the Swim Club Teams. www.arenaswimclub.com.au
