Shock Tactics to Reduce Drowning Deaths in WA

Keep your eyes out for Royal Life Saving’s Don’t Drink and Drown: Alcohol and Water Safety project 2009 summer campaign materials. New images created by the 303 Advertising Group use shock tactics to raise awareness of the dangers of mixing alcohol and aquatic activities. The new images display a male youth drowning in his beer and a partner advertisement of a female youth slumped on ‘the rocks’ in her vodka and cranberry. Both advertisements aim to hit home the Don’t Drink and Drown message this summer.

Watch Around Water Re-Registrations Now Open!

With the 2008/2009 summer season fast approaching, it is time to register for Watch Around Water once again. We would love to see all our previous participating centres on board the program once again and encourage those not yet involved to become part of this exciting industry initiative.

Watch Around Water is a joint initiative between Royal Life Saving WA and LIWA Aquatics which works with the broader aquatics industry to create a safer aquatic environment for all.

The campaign, now in it’s forth year, and is offering a number of new resources. Brand new poster designs, and ‘out of the box’ stickers and promotional resources have been created from feedback from registered WAW pools, and the recent regional trip. We want to ensure the program is driven by the needs of the industry. If you would like more information on these resources or becoming a registered pool please contact Lauren lnimmo@rlsswa.com.au or 9383 8200 or check out the Watch Around Water section.

Keep Watch Update September 2008

Katherine Celenza and Lauren Nimmo from RLSS WA’s Community Health Department have recently returned from a four day regional trip to the state’s South West region.  They conducted child safety forums with interested parents and held professional development sessions with child health nurses servicing the Katanning, Albany, Esperance and Jerdacuttup areas. This trip was held in collaboration with Kidsafe WA and Farmsafe Alliance WA and was very successful in promoting toddler drowning prevention and child safety to professionals, parents and carers in the region.

If you have any questions or need resources regarding the Keep Watch program, please email Katherine, kcelenza@rlsswa.com or phone 9383 8200.
