Child Injury & Drowning Prevention

Child injury and drowning prevention is a major issue and one that with education and awareness the number of incidences can be drastically reduced. Child health professionals play an integral role in promoting water safety and drowning prevention messages to parents with young children in the community. Therefore it is essential that they have access to up-to-date information and resources.

As part of the Keep Watch program we conduct professional development training with a range of child health professionals including child health nurses, community health nurses, health promotion and injury prevention staff and child care workers.

The sessions provide professionals with information on:

  • General water safety and drowning prevention information
  • Profile of toddler drowning in Western Australia
  • Keep Watch messages
  • Keep Watch resources and services available
  • Ways to promote water safety messages to parents of young children

These sessions are available free of charge and can be tailored to fit in with existing staff development days or can be organised as a stand alone session.
