Mark has been an ambassador for the Keep Watch program since 1999 when he tragically lost his daughter who drowned in a backyard swimming pool. Since then Mark has been dedicated to inspire other parents of young children to think about ways in which they can reduce the risk of drowning death in and around their home. He challenges all around him to share this message and find the courage to speak out to prevent drowning deaths.
Over the years, Mark has spoken passionately about this issue which he truly believes in and hopes that his story and experience will help change other parent’s behaviours and prevent toddler drowning deaths.
Steve Irons MP is the Federal Member for Swan in Western Australia. As a Keep Watch Ambassador, Steve is committed to promoting the Keep Watch messages within the Swan electorate.
In a media statement Steve said ‘swimming is a great way for young families to spend quality time together. However, we must all be vigilant and make it our responsibility to Keep Watch, especially when around the water, regardless of whether this is in the swimming pool or in the home. One child death from drowning is one too many and I will certainly be doing my best to promote this message’.
