Preventable Drowning Deaths

Drowning remains one of the leading causes of preventable death for children under five years of age in Western Australia. On average over the past decade one child drowns each week in Australia. The real tragedy is that ALL of these deaths ARE preventable!

Keep Watch is Royal Life Saving’s longest running drowning prevention campaign which looks to raise awareness amongst parents/carers of young children under five years of age of drowning prevention issues in and around the home.

A number of strategies are used to promote the programs four key messages including:

  • Mass media campaign
  • Parent education sessions
  • Professional Development training
  • Home Pool Inspection programs
  • Heart Beat Club training courses
  • Infant Aquatics lessons
